Private Cataract

Editorial policy

Last reviewed 5 October 2026 by Pete, editor (not a clinician). Figures checked 5 October 2026.

Every price, wait and guideline on this site comes from a source we opened, linked beside the figure with the date we checked it. If we cannot re-open a figure, we delete it. Pete edits the site and is not a clinician, so clinical points are quoted, not advised.

Where do the figures come from?

  • Prices: PHIN's published averages and clinics' own price pages. A comparison site is used only when we opened it and the clinic's own page did not show a price, and it is labelled.
  • The NHS wait: NHS England's referral to treatment files. We name the measure and the month.
  • Clinical points: NICE guideline NG77, quoted with the recommendation number.
  • Driving: we link DVLA guidance and do not restate it.

All of them are listed on sources with the date opened.

How often do you recheck?

Every month we recheck each price row against PHIN or the clinic's page and replace the wait figure with the latest NHS England month we have opened. A row we cannot re-open is deleted, not guessed.

What will you not do?

  • Say that anyone needs surgery, or grade a cataract from symptoms.
  • Invent a local NHS threshold or a driving rule.
  • Average two hospital groups that count different things.
  • Rank surgeons, publish star ratings or show operating-theatre photos.
  • Use the NHS logo or imply we are part of the NHS.

Urgent symptoms

Every page says it: sudden loss of vision, a curtain across your sight, flashes with a shower of floaters, or a painful red eye need help now. Go to A&E or call 999.

Corrections

Email hello@private-cataract.co.uk with the page and the source. We fix errors and update the date.

How do you check the prices?

We open PHIN or the clinic's own price page, copy the figure and what it includes, and record the link and date. We recheck monthly and delete any row we cannot re-open.

Who reviews the clinical content?

Pete edits the site and is not a clinician. Clinical points are quoted from NICE NG77 with the recommendation number, not written as advice.
